Bonk masters the art form of cuteness

September 19, 2010

I fall more and more in love with Bonkers every day.  He is learning new commands with the clicker — he now knows come and sit very well, and we are working on stay too.  He seems very fond of my couch — that is, he seems to think it is his personal urinal.  Fortunately, my couch is just about the most disgusting thing you have ever seen, so a little pee just sort of adds to the overall character.  Below you’ll see Bonk mastering “sit,” playing with Jacob, his new best friend, being a lap dog (thank you Kris :), and generally just looking adorable.  Sorry for the glassy eyes — I know it makes him look alien-like, but the red-eye correction feature doesn’t work.  Any suggestions?

Bonk Arrives!

September 6, 2010

I have a new foster and his name is Bonk, aka Bonkers, aka Bodonkadonk.

He is blind, and one of the sweetest and most endearing dogs I have ever met.  And his name suits him well because he bonks into everything!  He is learning so fast though.  He already knows where the food and water is, and how to go outside to go potty.  He appears to be housebroken, and he loves people and other dogs, and totally ignores the dozen feral cats that hang around my house.

(I overnighted another rescue, a golden retrieve who of course got scooped up fast, and the two of them just had so much fun — see video below.)  Bonk follows me around everywhere.  Not only is he sweet but he is a true comedian — with his floppy ears, big jowls, and turned out massive feet, he almost looks like a cartoon, and he snores like an old man.  I feel privileged to be learning how to be his seeing eye person.  This dog is going to teach me a lot, I can tell already.

I can’t believe I forgot to post this! About a month my dream family came along. They have another pit-mix named Dallas. Life is fabulous and Maddie is doing very well!

Here are pics of some of the puppies in their new homes!  (Mopito is still looking but is getting some steady interest.)  Also, Maddie and Mopito had a little reunion last weekend.  Check out the video below.

And another door opens

Today was bittersweet for me.  Mario and Mopito went to Jen’s (the director) — poor little guys haven’t been adopted yet because they have the “dark dog curse.” (Yes, the dark ones are always the last to go.)  I took Stella and Lucia to their new homes, and Luigi went to his new home on Thursday.  My house is officially empty, save for Bella, my older canine better-half.  (Maddie will be back in a week but is now with Jen since my mother is coming and will be having none of this mayhem.)  But it’s clear that this will not be the end of my puppy adventures (sorry mom).  Yesterday I rescued another litter (don’t worry mom they are not in my house) from a pretty bad situation, and they are as adorable as can be.  Here are some last minute pics of Maddie’s pups and new pics of Cinnamon, Pumpkin and Ginger!
